mike hindle
Mike’s work is about the wonder of being alive, the emotional response to the landscape and the joy in reflecting this through paint. His intrinsic need to create finds expression in an eclectic mix of work from wide open beach-scapes to abstracted landscapes. In all Mike’s work colour is key,
“I like to concentrate on balancing layers of colour to reflect as much as describe what is happening in the space between things, the air, the mood, the quality of the moment."
There is a vastness to Mike’s seascapes, the scene is reduced to its essential ingredients and the surface saturated with paint so that the paper or canvas is imbued with pigment, this makes the images rich so that the colour literally glows. Much of Mike’s work is influenced by the many years he lived in Cornwall. Inspired by his daily interaction with the sea and exposure to the St Ives art tradition.
Mike studied Fine Art at Hastings College of Art and Design and West Surrey College of Art and design during the 1980’s. He has been working as a full time artist for over 20 years and has had a number of exhibitions during that time. His work is in collections all around the world.
