diane whalley

Diane Whalley is a self-taught contemporary artist, based in Cornwall. She paints intuitively from both personal reflections and the imagination, often using playful gestures which dance over the canvas bringing positivity, fun, joy and discussion. Personal lived experiences of sudden loss, moving to Cornwall and travelling the Mediterranean by sailboat, have greatly influenced the artist and her process for painting. Starting with a thought, idea, memory or emotion, each piece emerges guided by intuition and imagination, often resulting with vibrant visual narratives. She is frequently known to paint over paintings she has previously created and loves the idea that there is a little secret beneath the final image.

After graduating with a BA (hons) degree in graphic design, Diane spent a number of years in design and PR, with a few years away to spend time with her daughters, before she finally began her journey with painting in 2016, but only full-time since 2019. Following a successful London show in early 2020, demand for her work has escalated from both art collectors and interior designers.

Diane now works from her garden studio at her home on the outskirts of Fowey where she continues to draw inspiration from the surrounding countryside, landscape, coastal life, travels and memories for her family Mediterranean adventure.
